Case Study

Cockle Bay Park Community-led Design

Rich community engagement

Future Trace founder, Clair van Veen, was engaged by a development consortium made up of GPT, AMP Capital and Brookfield, to lead a community-led design process for the Cockle Bay Park design competition. Forty community members and stakeholders participated in a site safari, divergent and convergent ideation, and idea prioritisation exercises over six weeks. The final outcome was a community-led design brief that envisioned a new and authentic experience for the Sydney CBD.

The community wins

The community-led design brief was one part of a comprehensive brief for the Design Excellence competition. The winning design from Henning Larsen, used the community-led design brief as the starting point for their concept direction. The project is in development until 2026, and will deliver a significant public precinct and future-focused workplace.

“A confident, clear, and poetic gesture for the people in the heart of downtown Sydney. Cockle Bay Park is designed to be both a human scale destination and a true urban icon on the skyline – a beacon for the people’s harbor.”  Henning Larsen

Brand architecture

Since design development started, Future Trace has delivered market research and brand strategy advice to turn a complex brand architecture into an evidence-based solution, which has earned endorsement across the matrixed project structure. The project and brand is set to launch in 2027.
